Hardware-agnostic access control matters

Why we refuse to lock customers into proprietary controllers — and what it took to support every major protocol.

The vendor lock-in trap

Most access control vendors sell you their controllers, their readers, their cards, and their software. Switch vendors? Replace everything. It’s a business model designed around captivity, not capability.

We think that’s wrong.

Our approach

EntryBit works with controllers from every major manufacturer. We support Wiegand, OSDP, and direct IP protocols. If it controls a door, we can probably talk to it.

This wasn’t easy. Each protocol has its own quirks, its own timing requirements, and its own failure modes. Building a unified abstraction that handles them all without losing fidelity took 18 months of firmware engineering.

What this means for customers

You keep your existing hardware. Migrating to EntryBit doesn’t mean ripping out controllers and readers. We integrate with what you have.

You’re never locked in. If you decide to leave EntryBit, your hardware still works. We believe in earning your business every month, not holding your infrastructure hostage.

Best-of-breed choices. Want HID readers with Mercury controllers and our cloud platform? That’s a perfectly valid configuration. Mix and match to fit your needs.

The OTA advantage

Because we control the firmware layer, we can push over-the-air updates to your entire controller fleet. Security patch at 2 AM? Done. New feature rollout? Gradual, with automatic rollback if anything goes wrong. No truck rolls, no maintenance windows.
